'Roger...you've got to keep ahold of yourself,' Mark said a bit loudly, hoping that the words would register to the drunken musician. He took a step closer and grabbed the bottle of beer from Roger's hand. 'You told me the same thing when I lost Maureen...now follow your own words of advice.'

Roger felt Joanne's soothing hand, but then in a moment his hands were empty. He saw that Mark was holding the beer - the beer he wanted and wasn't finished with. He lept up and ripped the bottle out of Mark's hand and sat back down. He had the worst urge for smack but he had none left, and hadn't bought any as a reserve since he quit years ago. He looked up at Mark and tried to piece together words that would make sense, but they were all slurred together. "No Maarrrk. I'm not gonna keeep myself together. I was gonna propose. I bought her the ring - that ring. And she'd rather be with fucking Maureen. " He stood up, his body swaying from the sudden movement. "I gave her everything I fucking had!" He started to move forward but, being drunk he fell to the floor, hitting his head. He cut his head and blood trickled out, and he just laid there. He had no desire to move.

Joanne watched him jump up for the beer, taking his beer probably wasn't the best idea. She was a bit suprised when she heard he was going to propse, she couldn't help but feel sorry that Mimi had left to be with Maureen. "You where going to propose?" Now she knew why he was taking it so hard. She watched as Roger crashed to the ground, getting up she went over kneeled by him taking notice of his bleeding head "Mark, can you get a towel or something to stop the bleeding? Although he probably dosen't even notice it." She spoke to drunk man on the floor "Honey, you have to calm down and stop the drinking, Mimi will relize the mistake she made. She loves you."

Mark's mouth gaped open for a moment, stunned. He awkwardly went to get a towel for Roger. When he came back he was still a bit stunned and shocked. He swallowed a lump in his throat. 'A-are you and Roger....' he trailed off watching them.

Joanne took the towel and held it Roger's head then looked Mark a bit suprised, she knew what he was asking "Are we what? dating or something... No Mark, our girlfriends just dumped us for each other. I'm not taking it that bad because I expect it from Maureen but not Mimi. I just came by to check on him having the feeling he might get drunk or something."

There was look of realisation on Mark's face. 'Oh,' he stated after a moment. 'Well...good thing you came...I wasn't supposed to be home until at least tomorrow. Ummm...careful...make sure no blood dripped on the floor.' Mark nearly smacked himself for sounding like his mother...but with Roger it was kinda hard not to due to his obvious inablity to take care of himself.

Joanne gave a small roll of her eyes looking down at Roger's bleeding head, her voice held a bit of a sassy tone to it "Yes it is a good thing...I will make sure no blood gets on the floor." She relized her rude tone and quickly dropped it, she knew Mark had been through this similar situation with Maureen. "Sorry..." She changed the subject to him "How was your visit with your family?"

Roger felt the cool cloth against his forehead and groaned. It stung but felt good, numbing for an instant the pain in his heart. He rolled over onto his back and his body thudded against the floor. "How could she love me if she'd rather go fuck Maureen." He sighed and touched his hand to his head, trying to sooth the throbbing headache he was getting. He took the cloth himself and crawled over to the couch and pulled himself up. He tried to think but couldn't. He wanted to explain everything to Mark, Joanne could only fill in here and there since she didn't know what went on between him and Mimi in the hospital room. He could wait until he was sober but that would take too long. "I was going to propose...I got that ring that she liked from when we went walking. She didn't say anything but I knew. and I was waiting for the opportune moment - it was always in my pocket." He started tearing up again. "And then in..in the hospital I told her everything, but it was too late. She l-lo-lov-loved Maureen and not me.." He started sobbing and hid his face in the couch. He was acting like a little kid but that's how he felt.

Mark listened awkwardly, he never thought of Roger as the type to want to get married. He looked down it was almost as heartbreaking as his own break up with Maureen. He couldn't bring himself to say anything stupid or even to keep himself from wanting to cry.

Joanne remained kneeled on the floor looking down at her hands which rested in her lap. She had no clue what to say to Roger or Mark. She had no idea Roger would propse to Mimi and felt a bit of anger towards Maureen for coming between them.

Roger drank the beer in his hand and he started feeling lightheaded. This must be how other people feel like. He had never opened up emotionally. He would push people away and refuse to get close to them. At first he pushed Mimi away, but there was something about her that caused the ice around his heart to melt. He opened it up for her, and knew why so many people would put their hearts on the line for someone - the one. But now he felt the pain and it felt as if he had no heart left. He sat up and then gulped down the rest of the beer. "Can someone please kill me now? I don't deserve to live...I don't want to live..." He stood up, trying to find the fire poker they used to have, or a knife - something. He found nothing and then swayed over to the couch. He sat back down on the couch with a thud. The beer finally took the final toll on him and he felt his eyes start to droop, the world spin, and then there was blackness. He fell over, but thankfully he was sitting on the couch which softened his fall. He had had over 9 beers that he could recall; probably more. He would wake up in a few hours, most likely, hopefully.

Joanne looked over at Roger's passed out figure. Knowing him, he would probably wake later completely hungover and question why he had gotten so drunk then when he remembered why he would either break down or get angry and want to drink more or something worse. This had been one of the few times she just remained quiet, unsure what to say. Unlike her mouth, her mind was busy questioning and wondering. Shifting her position she remained on the floor but leaned her back against the couch not ready to go back to her apartment to busy herself in some type of work. Joanne glanced over at Mark out of the cornor of her eye to make sure he was there, he had been so quiet. She waited for him to speak still not sure what to say.

Mark stood there watching his friend on the couch, out like a light. It was hard to see him this way, the last time that he got this drunk was when April died. There was an awkward silence as Mark stood there his face very pale, paler than usual as images from the past flooded back into his mind. There was a visable sadness and pain that came into his eyes.

Maureen looked through her bag for her wallet but couldn't find it. She realized that she had left it in her apartment. "I'll be right back, I just need to go get my wallet downstairs." She ran down the steps and walked into the room. When she got inside she paused. She saw Roger passed out, his head bleeding and Joanne and Mark silently standing around. "I'm just going to get my wallet.... yea." She made her way to the table looking everywhere but at them.
(OOC: Just to clear this up since everyone keeps saying Maureen lives somewhere else, I'm having her live with Roger and Mark since in the musical it never said that she actually moved in with Joanne and it just makes my life easier.)

'How could you? Maureen...how could you do this?' he asked in the same hurt voice as he had when she had dumped him for Joanne.
He was so close to tears, so terribly hurt. He hated seeing Roger like this, he hated how she could always do these things so easily. Mark moved, finally able to command his body to work and go to Maureen. The pain was ever visable in his face.
