Joanne looked down "We always chose the ones that break our hearts and hurt us the most," She said quietly then got up and joined Roger out on the fire escape wanting fresh air. She looked out at the street below, her arms folded over her chest "It would be nice to just fly away...especially times like this," She spoke glancing at a bird then back down to the people walking around on the street.

Roger looked at Joanne. "But why though? It's not like our brain recognizes danger and says 'Go for it!'. You think it'd warn us..." He sighed, trying to sooth his head which wouldn't be soothed. He saw a passerbyer with a watch and had called down to ask the time. "Mimi should be going to work soon enough...hopefully it's still there" The last part was uttered quietly, and he released a heavy sigh. He stood up and walked inside and laid down on the couch facing up. "What are we going to do...?"

She sighed and followed him leaning on the wall "It would be nice if our brain would warn us but it dosen't and then we end up hurting," She looked at him "What do you mean what are we going to do?" She didn't think there was anything they could do, the two people they loved had chosen to dump them to be with each other.

Roger looked over at Joanne. "What do you mean what do I mean? We need to do something - I need to do something. I can't loose Mimi, I can't give her up, not without a fight."He punched the sofa and felt some anger released. "She's all I have. Without her I'm nothing. Just a person without heart, a soul. Nothing." He kept checking the time, waiting for Mimi to go to work, waiting for her to find the ring...waiting for her to come back to him.

Mark worked in his room, fighting tears that wanted to pour down his pale cheeks. He looked at the film reels, most of them old collections from the past of Maureen, Roger and April, some of them scripted plays that he wrote, but Maureen was always in them.
How do you leave the past behind? he thought bitterly.

Joanne looked back at him, watching him punch the sofa "If I knew the answer on what to do, I would say it but I don't and I hate that I don't know. I am just as stunned that Mimi would leave you and especially for Maureen." She stood there feeling defeated questioning herself as to why Maureen had to bring some type of heartache to everyone, why she couldn't focus on one relationship without flirting or something obscene... because it's Maureen, was the only answer she could come up with.

Roger sat there and yet again looked at the clock. He seemed preoccupied with the time - his new obsession. "Do you think Mimi has left for..work yet? I really hope she has. I mean, not that I care or anything. It's just there's something she needs to find." He stopped after realizing that he had just been rambling like a young schoolgirl. He took a deep breath and proceeded to speak calmly. "There's something she needs to see there. That's all." He felt paranoid and really wished that there were some drugs in his apartment but sadly there weren't.

Joanne looked at her watch "She should be heading there soon..." She couldn't help but wonder what she was supposed to see so she asked "What is she supposed to see? Will it hopefully bring her back to you?"

Roger sighed and then looked at Joanne. "This morning I wrapped the ring up and wrote a letter to Mimi and brought it too her work where I knew she'd find it. I'm just hoping that seeing it and reading the note will bring her back to me..." He had no idea if his plan would work, but he really hoped so. He still loved her and wanted her back. They may have broken up, but he never stopped..

Joanne made eye contact with him "Oh..." She gave a small nod then walked over and sat next to him on the couch "Hopefully she will come back to you,"

Feeling insanely bored, he went to leave his room, but he stopped upon seeing Roger and Joanne. Awkwardly Mark lingered in his own doorway, watching...almost waiting. The tears still wanted to flow, but he knew that they would do little and just make him feel worse. Like always, he was going to stand back and watch everyone live.

Roger put his head in his hands, but then his eyes caught sight of a shadow. He looked up and saw Mark in the bedroom doorway. He tried to smile at him. "Hey stranger. I didn't get to ask earlier, considering...how was the trip back home?" It felt awkward to him, and knew it would be awkward but they needed to talk about something other than Mimi and Maureen. It was ironic to see how those two people would affect so many others.

Mark shrugged and walked over. 'The same as always, my mom just doesn't know when to quit. I was almost about to tell her that I gave up on women, but that would almost be a lie...because you know...anyway, I got some good footage, I guess,' he said, trying to keep things light.
His voice sounded pretty distant to his own ears, a false indifference to it. He felt kind of numb, ignoring what had made him so unhappy, just thought on his film of his niece and nephew, because of his lack of a serious relationship.

Roger smiled. Mark was still the same guy ever which was a comforting thought in all that was changing around him. "Yeah, I know what you mean...Anyway, you'll have to show me the footage sometime." He wanted to see Mark's footage - but not the one that he was talking. He wanted to see Angel's face again, see him and Mimi smiling, see Maureen and Joanne together smiling...see everyone the way they used to be.

'Sure,' he replied in a softly, 'anything you want.'
He felt so numb, his voice still so distant to his own ears. His hands pushed into his pockets as he rocked a bit on his heels.
